Why HUO6?
Everyday, children and adults alike die from hunger due to poverty and diseases by poor sanitation and lack of clean water. Everyday, women, children and even animals are treated poorly as their rights were stripped away from them and none of them know how to stand up for themselves as their voices were never heard. Refugees run away from their torn country and find refuge in another country, only to be discriminated and treated unfairly by the locals in that country. Discrimination prevented some to go to school mostly due to their gender and the move to a more modern world forced culture and traditions to die; to be extinct.
Everyday, our trees are cut due to excessive deforestation and thus, killing millions of homes for animals and tribes who regard the forest as their home. Where are they to go now? Our ocean is polluted and our once beautiful marine life is forced to be extinct because of greed and ignorance. Also, global warming which is often regarded as a small problem is currently changing how our Earth is acting; ocean currents, weather, temperature, ocean life and ultimately, creating new diseases and problems for the Earth's inhabitants.
The question is, are we strong enough to adapt to these changes or would we, just like the dinosaur, be wiped out from the Earth forever?
What to expect in HUO6?
Participants can expect series of workshops by students touching on issues such as sexuality rights, animal rights, global health, exploitation of the poor and indigenous rights to name a few. There are a total of 17 student workshops where participants would have the choice of choosing which topic/issue they feel strongly about and would like to explore more on it.
Aside from that, various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Keynote Speakers were invited to organize a 40-minute workshop/talk each. Just like the student workshop, participants are given an opportunity to choose which topic/issue that interests them most and be a part of it. Each NGO and Keynote Speaker invited play a big role not only in Malaysia but also the world as a whole on issues such as refugee rights, importance of restoring biodiversity, creating a happy space for kids and so much more.
Full list of NGOs and Keynote Speakers will be updated in the future. Stay tuned!
